BIOMORPHS
You and Me, 8”x9”x7”, glazed and painted ceramic
With each of the Biomorphic Sculptures, my approach is one of exploration. I place a ball of wet clay in my hands; begin by pushing, pulling, and stretching the clay until it shows me where it wants to go in that moment, and then I follow it. There is no preconceived plan, though there may be some vague feelings or sensations mulling around. Inevitably a shape appears externally that feels directly related to the stuff of my daily internal life. This intuitive way of making abstract forms allows whatever is below the surface of my consciousness a place to emerge.
A note about the surface:
Each sculpture is glaze-fired to a low temperature, sandblasted, and painted with oils and cold wax medium.
