California Poppy

I have the amazingly good fortune of being able to easily turn to the comfort of walking outdoors in nature where my senses can open to the sky, clouds, plants, animals, earth, air, and water.  Often I take photos along my walks; later, referring to them when back in the studio.

During April, 2020, the first full month of the pandemic lockdown, I decided to make a watercolor each day of that month using for my inspiration whatever caught my eye during my walk. By April the surrounding hillsides are abundant with the bright oranges, yellows, and golds of the California poppy. The experience of painting this flower has served to deepen my wonder at its delicacy, subtlety, and very existence. Here is the watercolor from Day 10.
